The Gulf of Morbihan

The Gulf of Morbihan

The Trois Rivières (Three Rivers) area formed by Crac'h, Locmariaquer and Saint Philibert nestles in a privileged setting between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Quiberon Bay, an outstanding maritime environment. This is a place for relaxation thanks to its micro climate and fantastic beaches.
The Gulf of Morbihan has given its name to the region : Mor-bihan means « little sea » in Breton.
The Gulf extends into the Quiberon Bay and is a jewel in the crown of South Brittany. It is listed as one of « The most beautiful bays in the world » just like the Ha-Long Bay or San Francisco Bay.
The Gulf offers a unique scenery where land and sea unite through ever changing landscapes, over 11,500 ha. Its extended sea area makes it an exceptional sailing spot.
A heaven of peace and quiet, the Gulf of Morbihan opens onto the Quiberon Bay in Locmariaquer at the Kerpenhir point. The statue of Notre-Dame of Kerdro stands as a symbolic welcome for sailors and navigators. Some days, you can watch an amazing show off the tip of Kerpenhir when the streams at high tide are exceptionally strong, up to 11 knots in some narrow passage ways. The sea pouring into the Gulf finds its way through a labyrinth of coves, headlands, rocks and 42 islands, of which Ile aux Moines, Ile d'Arz, Gavrinis… Whilst staying or visiting the area, take the opportunity to hop on a tall ship or cruise boat from Locmariaquer. Several cruise companies offer sight-seeing tours to discover one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

LA SEMAINE DU GOLFE (Gulf's Week)
Every other year during the Ascension week, this major nautical event gathers over a thousand boats from different European nations, turning the Gulf of Morbihan into the theatre of an amazing maritime performance.
Between the outstanding Opening Parade and Great Parade, boats sail in flotillas, stopping every day at a different port around the Gulf (including Locmariaquer), where festivities take place both for sailors and visitors.
The next Semaine du Golfe will take place in 2017. Allow plenty of time ahead to book your accommodation and attend the show !
